About Us

We’re a highly passionate, inclusive and supportive scout group, coming together on every activity to ensure our youth get the very best scouting experience...

1st Templestowe Scout Group commenced in 1959 meeting in a Shire hall up in the Anderson Street area, sharing the facilities with the Girl Guides. It is not clear when the Group moved, but 1st Templestowe was well and truly settled into a “small hall” in Hawtin Street in 1962.

Until 1972, Scouting had only been open to boys. In always looking forward, through a review held in 1972 referred to as “The New Design for Scouting”, it became official that the name “Australian Boy Scouts Association” be renamed “The Scout Association of Australia”. The removal of the word “Boy” paved the way over the years which followed for girls to become members.

Since its inception in 1908, Scouting has been dedicated to the ideal that young people will make better citizens and be happier individuals it their natural enthusiasm, desire for adventure and to be with their friends are allied to a sense of purpose and achievement. It is a framework within which important “life skills” can be learned, such as leadership, self-reliance, initiative, community spirit, teamwork. first aid. care for the environment and responsibility.

Our Group offer these ideals through a variety of activities in a safe and fun environment, giving the youth a taste for learning new skills that could lead them to future hobbies, adventures and even careers. The Group has continued to prosper in our present hall which, by the 2000’s was in need of renovations. Manningham City Council renovated the hall area in 2016, the Group renovated the kitchen area in 2017 and the toilet and storeroom area was refurbished in 2019 giving us an excellent facility to conduct our scouting activities and for use by the community.

Our hall is located in Templestowe Reserve at 94-140 Porter St, the corner of Porter Street and Hawtin StreetTemplestowe surrounded by grassed areas with a childrens’ playground nearby. Its location makes the hall a very attractive prospect for anyone wishing to hire it for one off events or for more regular activities.

Our Group is run by adult uniformed leaders who have completed the relevant training, hold a working with children check and undergone a police name check. The leaders deliver the scouting programs to the youth members. They are supported by a Group Committee with a Treasurer, Secretary and Ortice bearers who look atter the group’s finances, fundraising, maintenance of the hall, providing equipment to mention a few of their duties.
